| Ask anyone: there isn’t another palm that exudes the sheer beauty of the Canary Island Date Palm. This majestic skyline palm, with its tropical sophistication, is commanding on roadsides or lining an entryway to a project, creating a strong focal point in any location. The large canopy is distinguished from all others, evoking the silhouette of a pineapple. At maturity, these palms can grow to 40 to 60 ft. with a frond spread of 20 to 40 ft. The slow growing palms are known by their pinnate arching feather-like fronds. They also have brush-like stalks with small ivory flowers. Fruit on females only; not edible. Trunk tends to be more massive, creating a presence. Hardiness above 20 degrees F; full sun and infrequent, deep irrigation suggested. Naturally, our prized Canaries are ideal for desert venues as they have been raised and acclimated here, making the desert their familiar home. Not surprisingly, origins are the Canary Islands. |
