| The Sweet Acacia has become overwhelmingly popular in desert landscapes. With good reason: it’s visually appealing, hardy and versatile. Works well lining entryways or streets. Vase shaped when young, rounder with age. Semi-evergreen, may retain leaves in warm winters. Grows to 15 to 25 ft., spread is about 2/3 height. Bipinnately compound leaves with tiny feathery leaflets. Flowers are bright yellow, round, with a heady fragrance; bloom Feb – March. Dark brown pods, ˝ in. White needles. Dark trunk. Adaptable to many soils, great in the desert. Hardiness to mid-teens, prolonged cold temps could damage. Full sun, reflected heat. Water deep and infrequently, one to two times per month during growing season. |
