| This is the one. With its upright gray-green pinnate feather-like fronds, this attractive palm can grow to 100 ft. Ideal for commercial uses, it thrives in heat, and full sun to shade. Extensively cultivated for its edible sweet fruit, the date, it is an exceedingly popular ornamental in desert landscapes. The date is a type of fruit called epigynous berry in which the fruit forms above the flower. Medjool produces high yield of large, sweet fruit. The Coachella Valley is the source for these trees and their dates. Due to their relatively slow growth rate, they are very hardy. |
